Wednesday Morning Mavs Donuts, featuring … Dirk Nowitzki goes for 20,000 tonight! … Carlos Boozer-to-Dallas trade talk. … And Kevin Martin-to-Dallas trade talk, too. … The Lakers go down and the Lakers in town. … Drew Pearson with the truth about the Cowboys-Vikings “Hail Mary’’ … Donuts!
DONUT 1: Dirk needs 16 points to get to 20,000. (Yes, you should probably wear your/get your UberMan T-shirt to commemorate the event). A long time ago, 20,000 seemed like a long ways away.
He scored his first two points at Seattle on Feb. 5, 1999. The Mavs lost (of course) and about the only thing Dirk did was make two free throws.
“It was the first game of my career in Seattle (and it was) against Schrempf,’’ Dirk remembers. “There was huge hype, Germans all over the place. They organized a handshake with me and Schrempf before the game at halfcourt and it was just a mess. … I was just in awe the whole time."
“I made two free throws, so those were my first points in my NBA career," Nowitzki says. “Looking back, it was probably one of the worst games I ever played."
DONUT 2: The Lakers are in town tonight, second game of a B-2-B after having lost in San Antonio. They’ve lost four straight roadies, Kobe’s back hurts (but he thinks he’ll play vs. Dallas) and we’ll have a full preview of the game coming up later (stay tuned). But for now, here’s the perspective from LA on the 105-85 loss …
DONUT 3: And here’s the perspective from San Antonio.
DONUT 4: Lots of Fakers fans will be in town this week … wearing those gaudy yellow uniforms and throwing their Foam Fingers at everybody … The way for you to combat it all? Poke around the DB.com Store for your Mavs/DallasBasketball.com T-shirts! ... Show your allegiance … Wear it proudly!
DONUT 5: We’ve kicked around Carlos Boozer-to-Dallas scenarios since last summer. Looks like something really was going on … David Lord will be on the case shortly.
DONUT 6: Do the Mavs have their eyes on Sacto’s Kevin Martin?
DONUT 7: Feel free to join the club and follow DallasBasketball.com on Twitter. at twitter.com/fishsports… please!
DONUT 8: Remember when folks insisted the East was getting to be as strong as the West? Remember when some of those same folks were insisting that the Southwest Division was weakening?
Check it:
The Southwest Division has five teams in it. All five teams are over .500.
Meanwhile, in the entire Eastern Conference, there are just four teams over .500.
DONUT 9: Over at Blogging The Boys, I’ve got some Cowboys-Vikings stuff – including Drew Pearson, explaining in depth how the “Hail Mary’’ was almost the “Hail Baptist.’’
DONUT 10: Why did the Knicks lose in OKC? Because their hotel was … haunted!!
DONUT 11: Sefko takes us to a Fair Park neighborhood where Erick Dampier and Roddy Beaubois did a good deed.
DONUT 12: Remember that American Express TV ad featuring all the Mavs’ foreign players and Nellie punctuating the whole thing with the word “Hoser’’? Here’s the good-times video.
The DB.com Store: New designs, "The UberMan,'' "Fish For Lunch'' and "The DUST Chip''!
