Some quickies from the Personnel Dept. in preparation for Mavs-at-Warriors (9:30 p.m.) featuring Devean George, Captain Jack, Lil’ Monte and Big Nellie, all part of today's 6 O'Clock News:
ITEM: Devean George (knee) may need surgery. Tough break. Yes, it thins out the Mavs at the wing position, especially with Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse limping about. But this is no immediate deal-breaker, is it? How many more mistakes/contributions did Devean make per minute than Gerald Green has made?
I want me some G$ tonight. He plays on the wing, does he not?
ITEM: Lots of buzz about what Stephen Jackson might do against Dirk Nowitzki tonight and hey, he can thug up a game with the best of ‘em. But the leader of the Nappy-Headed Schmoes, as gifted as he is (21 points and 6.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds, quite an impressive tally, really) is still a league-leading knucklehead who goes his own way on offense and leads the NBA in turnovers.
That’s right. In an NBA world where PGs’ turnovers are the norm, in GS, Captain Jack’s turnovers are an epidemic.
ITEM: Nellie’s relationship with Monte Ellis is now like his relationship with so many of those around him. … to the point where the coach and the player can’t even agree on what position Ellis has been occupying. Nellie will demand that Golden State try to trade Ellis and the rest of this roster, the owner will fire Mully, Nelson will ask for a raise, he’ll get it, and then he’ll retire.
And then he’ll return – but only after he sues the owner in order to get another raise.
No, that won’t all happen tonight. But it’ll happen soon enough.
