The UberMan: 'It's Only A Successful Season If You Win A Title'

“It’s only a successful season if you win a title,’’ said Dirk Nowitzki during Thursday’s Mavs Exit Interviews, a comment from the Mavs’ best player that was echoed by teammates throughout the bag-packing day.
In the coming days, we’ll do player-by-player evaluations and break down the past, present and future for the Mavs. For now, we offer up Exit Interview Quick Takes – complete with AUDIO at the AAC – this one from Dirk Nowitzki.
Here’s The UberMan in his own words:
*On Rick Carlisle: “It took a while to get used to Coach. … He did a great job.’’
*On his future with the club: “I'm turning 31. I still feel I have a good three to four years of solid basketball left. I'm gonna work hard again this summer.’’
*On Jason Kidd: “He's shown even though he's older he's a warrior. It’s up to him and his agent to find the best situation. He's gotta weigh his options. I'm sure all the good teams want him. But I'd love to have him back here.. (Kidd) knows how I feel about him, so it’s up to him. He's 36; at that point you'd love to win him a title.’’
*On athleticism and weapons: “I think we need to improve in a lot of areas. We had a hard time keeping the athletes in front of us. … All the contenders have a lot of weapons. … We gotta get pieces that fit, fit in the city and the franchise but also that can play. We need to get better.’’
*On his personal strife: “It’s been a tough couple of weeks. That's all I can say on that. ...’’
*On his desire to win a title in Dallas: “I've been with (Cuban) for nine years and I think he wants to win as much as I do. Even if I went somewhere else and won a championship it wouldn't feel the same. … I’ve got two more years under contract. I can opt out after 2010 but I haven't thought about it.... We don't want to be playing for the eighth spot all year. … It’s only a successful season if you win a title.’’
