Friday Morning Donuts … and it's time once again to discuss whether the Mavs' Big 3 "ranks with anyone's,'' and who the Mavs' "Big 3'' even is, and remind me again, Donnie, why "Dirk Nowitzki is like a Woodbine engine''?
DONUT 1: Last summer, Mavs GM Donnie Nelson told DallasBasketball.com that the Mavs' "Big 3'' ranks with any trio in the NBA. Much controversy ensued. Now it's this summer and ... well, is it controversial to say that Dirk/Josh/Jet rank right up there? Or would it be Dirk/Josh/Kidd? Or is it Dirk/Marion/Josh/Kidd/Jet and if you have five guys who can be in the discussion, isn't that a sign that maybe Donnie's biased view wasn't/isn't that skewed?
By the way and for the record: Donnie's version of "Big 3'' as of 12 months ago was Dirk/Kidd/Josh. And no, I still don't know why he compared Dirk to a "Woodbine engine'' or what the hell a "Woodbine engine'' even is.''
DONUT 2: Here come Cristal Taylor. Here come the baby (maybe). And here come da Judge.
DONUT 3: Some people say, “Hey, Mike, why Ford? Why now?’’
And you know what I say back to them?
Shut the hell up. I’m a Texas Toyota man.
DONUT 4: An honest evaluation from NO about whether Tyson Chandler out and Emeka Okafor in make the Hornets any better.
DONUT 5: You will recall our story about Dirk Nowitzki and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum? My German connections offer up a notable anecdote: When that same Wax Museum in Berlin debuted a certain wax figure that looked like a certain infamous world leader who looked like … well, it was Hitler, OK? … a justifiable vandal rushed the stage and ripped the waxy head from the waxy Fuhrer.
DONUT 6: DB.com updates and assorted gunk is available at twitter.com/fishsports
DONUT 7: From the semi-pro satirists at DB.com Boards, on the subject of Nate Robinson:
If you tweet when you are arrested does that make you a jail bird?
DONUT 8: Misty Mav invites you to buy your DallasBasketball.com T-shirt from her, please ... we’ve got four styles to choose from … four different ways to flaunt your basketball superiority to your sad and envious friends. All original designs. … "The UberMan''! "Fish For Lunch''! And "The DUST Chip''! Check ‘em out!
DONUT 9: Two odd Brett Favre tidbits:
a) a reliable source says Minnesota fans were unable to purchase Vikings Yearbooks during training camp as they normally would because the whole process was stuck at the printer’s. … waiting for management to tell it what to do with a certain No. 4 page.
DONUT 10: And b) So I’m watching “30 Rock’’ last night and on comes a Sears commercial and they’re selling plasma TVs. And it’s some sort of lame play on Favre’s indecision. And on the TVs, in the background, what’s on the screen?
Big purple-sailed wooden Viking ships.
Which means that either you have every right to be a Favre Conspiracy Theorist or that Sears filmed that commercial, like, 12 hours ago.
DONUT 11: An old friend, Pops Mensah Bonsu, is Houston-bound.
DONUT 12: Remember my story about the lost autographed Iron Man ball? You know, the baseball that was to have been personally signed for me by A.C. Green, Doug Jarvis, Randy Smith, Jim Marshall and Cal Ripken? I still haven't found it. But I've found the guy who last saw it alive ...
