The Mavs have a practice-jersey sponsor (and they didn’t have to go far to find one). … Where does Jason Terry rank among Best Sixth-Men Of The Decade? … Remember Oliver Miller? Well, he remembers you! … A Tim Thomas Injury Update and a Josh Howard Injury Watch. … Oh, and some FISH on FOOTBALL coming up on Blogging The Boys … It’s Thursday Morning Donuts!
DONUT 1: I’ve really enjoyed Ball Don’t Lie’s series on “The 10 Best ____ of the Decade.'' But in terms of Best Sixth-Men of the Decade, Jet ranks this low? Really?
DONUT 2: The Dallas Mavericks have signed HDNet as a sponsor for the team’s practice jerseys. HDNet logo placement will also be on Mavericks coaching staff apparel worn at team practices.
And where did Mark Cuban find himself this sponsor?
By looking in the mirror!
DONUT 3: The Mavs expect Tim Thomas’ knee injury to sideline him for two months or so. Hey, just enough time to see if Nathan Jawai can play a lick!
DONUT 4: Let’s see. Mediocre big man Greg Ostertag wants to make a comeback to the NBA. Heck, maybe mediocre big man Scot Pollard should, too.
DONUT 5: Done. Mediocre big man Scot Pollard wants to make a comeback to the NBA. Heck, maybe … let’s see. … OK. … maybe mediocre big man Oliver Miller should, too.
DONUT 6: Done. My guys at Avid Golfer magazine note that they just got done visiting with The Bigger O and that Oliver Miller is “still thinking comeback.’’
DONUT 7: Instant updates on All Things Mavs and All Things FB.com if you follow us at twitter.com/fishsports
DONUT 8: My “FISH on FOOTBALL’’ Thursday notebook will soon be up and running at Blogging The
Boys. It’s just like the Wednesday notebook, only … it’s Thursday. Stats, snark, insight, quote, news, more snark. ... please head on over to my new Cowboys home at BtB and enjoy! This package will be a regular Wednesday feature AND Thursday feature … and if you want this much FISH … we’re gonna need a bigger boat.
DONUT 9: Cuban’s chat at the DMNews mentions a certain level of caution with Josh Howard’s return from injury. Now, Dallas needs to see him a little bit at the 2, right? At the same time, the Mavs would be justified in keeping J-Ho in bubble wrap during preseason games and letting him work out the kinks in practice.
This is one to watch.
DONUT 10: Donnie Nelson is looking for a few good men. And women. And people who want to work for a professional basketball team. Here’s the info on Donnie’s Frisco-based D-League job fair:
The job fair will take place in Frisco today! The event will provide a chance to be a part of a new Texas basketball franchise that will begin play in 2010 at Frisco’s Dr Pepper StarCenter.
Donnie and other team executives will accept resumes from noon to 2 p.m. at the Dr Pepper StarCenter located at 2601 Avenue of the Stars in Frisco.
Applicants not able to attend may email resumes to dleaguefrisco@nba.com.
DONUT 11: DB.com Store’s Dirk September Special: Order A DB.com T-Shirt And Be Eligible To Win A Nowitzki Jersey! Check out the DB.com and order now!
DONUT 12: The NY Times' update on the NBA's nasty ref problem.
DONUT 13: I'm going to Dallas Stars practice today. I want the experience to be reminiscent of my Minnesota boyhood. So this morning I plugged in my car, arranged for Modano to bring the hot cocoa, and am hoping for an autograph from Gump Worsley.
The DB.com Store: New designs, "The UberMan,'' "Fish For Lunch'' and "The DUST Chip''!
