Monday Morning Mavs Donuts, featuring the latest on Iverson and Tiger, on Chicago slumlord Antoine Walker and Olympic thinker Mark Cuban, the lowly Nets and the rising Cowboys, and on the Sixers coming to town for tonight's meeting with the Mavs:
DONUT 1: Allen Iverson continues to make himself a story … whether he truly is one or not. First to the team he is supposedly flirting with (when he's not flirting with retirement: The Sixers are in Dallas tonight with all sorts of injuries in the backcourt, the possibility of an Elton Brand return tonight, and after last night's loss in SA, a 5-12 record. Oh yeah, and six straight losses.
So maybe they are desperate enough to ...
DONUT 2:... Consider the idea of bringing A.I. back to Philly? Is that a dream or a nightmare? A step forward or just a treadmill? Here are the latest facts and figures.
DONUT 3: The male sportswriter who decided to become a female sportswriter passes away at age 52.
DONUT 4: Back to the Nets: You saw this coming and on Sunday it came: Lawrence Frank has been fired.
The Mavs get those characters on Wednesday, Mavs at New Jersey … and don’t forget, you are cordially invited to the DB.com Mavs Get-Together to watch the monumental game (NJ goes for an NBA-record 0-18 start to the year and apparently it was all Lawrence Frank’s fault!) at Hacienda on Henderson … Free DB.com T-shirts, free Mavs tickets courtesy of MavCowTickets.com, and I’ll even buy your second entrée free!
See you Wednesday night!
DONUT 5: Antoine Walker’s financial problems extend to him being a slum lord in his hometown. Happy Thanksgiving, ‘Toine.
DONUT 6: Tiger Woods issues a statement on TigerWoods.com in which he asserts that this is really no big deal, just a matter of some “cuts and bruising,’’ and that Elin acted “courageously,’’ and that “any other assertion is absolutely false.’’
So that would be the end of it, maybe, except in Tiger’s statement he also mentions his opinion that “This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way.’’
Three problems there, my man.
*One, you may view it as a “private matter.’’ You may view it that way with such assuredness or even such arrogance that you feel ustified in denying police availability to interview you for two days. That is not the way the law is supposed to work, but anyway. … because the police want to talk to you, it is something more than a “private matter.’’
*Two, sir, in my neighborhood, if some clown couple is zipping down driveways driving over fire hydrants and plowing into trees, that – unless said clown couple actually owns all the fire hydrants and all the trees – is decidedly NOT a “private matter.’’
*And three. … if it’s really no big deal, just a matter of some cuts and bruises and a smidgen of poor driving … why the demand for privacy? What’s the big secret?
DONUT 7: If you want FISH on the radio, if you want Mavs on the radio. …You get 103.3 ESPN Radio’s “Mavs Magazine’’! We’ll do it every Saturday through the NBA season, from 10-to-11 a.m., on the Mavs flagship station, 103.3 ESPN Radio! … it’s the official Mavs radio show, full of Mavs guests – players, media, coaches, you name it!
Plus, I’ll update you on when DallasBasketball.com represents on the Mavs pregame and postgame shows, too. We serve you Fish on 103.3 ESPN Radio!
DONUT 8: The holiday season. A good time to get that special someone their shirt from the DB.com Store. (On Black Monday, may I recommend the black “DUST Chip’’ shirt? You’re welcome!
DONUT 9: I can't say this is the first name that popped into my mind as the new coach of the Nets, but the first name that pops into Patrick Ewing's mind is ... Patrick Ewing.
DONUT 10: FISH on FOOTBALL and a Cowboys Top Ten Takes for the weekend at Blogging The Boys.
DONUT 11: Is LeBron thinking of participating in the NBA All-Star Weekend Slam-Dunk Contest in DFW?
DONUT 12: From Mark Cuban: Why our Olympic basketball team should be 21-and-under only.
